There was trouble on 9 May case, and former Punjab Deputy Speaker Wasiq Qayyum Abbasi and MPA Umar Tanveer Butt have said they will not be witnesses against former prime minister Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi.
Today, when they went before Anti-Terrorism Court Judge Malik Ijaz Asif, both leaders denied that they had given candid statements under Section 164. They said they had never spoken or written anything bad about the PTI founder or his wife in front of a judge.
9 May case
In court, Abbasi and Butt said that Imran Khan had always supported peaceful protests and that the major charges against him were not based on any evidence. Both also asked for their acquittals because there wasn’t enough proof, which the court agreed to hear again.
The papers were sent in by their lawyer, Faisal Malik, and are now part of the court record. According to these claims, Bushra Bibi was linked to the 9 May case because of these comments.
The court has set a date to hear both release requests, which could be good news for the leaders who are being charged.
