Head coach Brian Kelly stated he wasn’t thrilled with how the Tigers performed after No. 13 LSU lost 27–20 to No. 23 USC on Sunday night.
Kelly‘s first comment to the media upon arriving at LSU was, “pretty angry at our football team.”
Going into the fourth quarter, the Tigers were ahead 17–13; unfortunately, they dropped behind the Trojans following a touchdown. Following a nine-play drive stopped and an LSU field goal knotted the game, it appeared the game may enter overtime.
However, USC marched down the field and got close to the goal, but Tigers back Jardin Gilbert was called for targeting, which put the ball in the red zone. The Tigers were upset when Trojan running back Woody Marks punched in a touchdown from 13 yards out at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
Brian Kelly said that he didn’t like how disciplined LSU was to start the season.
“We take pride in running a disciplined program, but we have clearly not done a good enough job, because it impacted the game,” he said.
