Masoud Pezeshkian, The new president of Iran told the US that his government would work to create “balance in relations with all countries” in line with national goals and the conditions for peace. However, he also said that his country “will not respond to pressure.”

Masoud Pezeshkian wrote an article called “My Message To The New World” late Friday night in the country’s state-owned newspaper. In it, he praised the most recent presidential election as having “demonstrated remarkable stability” and promised to keep the “promises I made during my campaign.”

A heart surgeon and congressman for 69 years, Pezeshkian beat Saeed Jalili, a hard-liner and former nuclear negotiator, in the runoff election on July 5 to replace President Ebrahim Raisi, who died in a helicopter crash in May.

In his message, he said that his government would “prioritize strengthening relations with our neighbors.” He also asked Arab countries to use “all diplomatic leverages” to try to end the war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip, which began on October 7.

Iran has long backed the militant group Hamas. In a message to Ismail Haniyeh, the leader of Hamas, on Wednesday, Pezeshkian said that he fully supported “the Palestine resistance.”
