Punjab police killed the main suspect of Katcha area attack as a way of getting back at the terrorists

On Friday, the Punjab police said that the main suspect in the deadly rocket attack on police in Rahim Yar Khan’s Katcha area had been killed in a response.

There were 12 police officers martyred in the attack, which happened in the riverine katcha area.

He has a history of kidnapping for ransom, with gangs working along the river borders of southern Sindh and central Punjab for many years. The area is known for its organized crime groups.

Katcha area Attacker Killed

A source in the police said that about twenty officers were stationed at Katcha area Camp 2 in the river area. As the two police mobile vans made their way back to Rahim Yar Khan for the weekly break, one of them broke down because of the standing flood water in the area.

When riverine thieves saw police officers stuck in the water, they fired rockets at the group of officers, killing 15 of them. Two police officers were hurt in the attack, and four others are still missing.

Punjab Inspector General Dr. Usman Anwar told local media that both Punjab and Sindh police had started working together in the Katcha area, with 320 police officers from Punjab and more from Sindh on the ground.

In a post on X, the Punjab police stated that the main suspect, Bashir Shar, had been killed in response to the attack. The police report said, “Bashir Shar, the main suspect who led the attack on our officers, has met his fate.” Five of Shar’s helpers were hurt in the action as well: Gada Ali, Sanaullah Shar, Kamlu Shar, Ramzan Shar, and Gadi.

Maryam Nawaz, the chief minister of Punjab, told IG Anwar and other top officials to oversee the operation in Rahim Yar Khan. Murad Ali Shah, the chief minister of Sindh, told his provincial police head to work closely with the Punjab authorities and offer any help that was needed.

According to a statement from her party, PML-N, CM Maryam also told the Punjab home secretary to start an operation right away in the Katcha areas. The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) Punjab will be in charge of the operation.

The attack is a major increase in violence in the area, which is why Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif demanded “immediate and effective action” against those who did it.
