The president of Iran, Ibrahim Raisi, is said to have been in a crash in his helicopter. Rescue teams were sent to the scene, but they have not been able to get there because of bad weather like heavy rain and wind.
Iran’s state TV said that early reports showed that the helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi had crashed while landing, and rescue teams were on their way.
In an interview with state TV, Ahmad Vahidi, Iran’s Interior Minister, said that a helicopter in President Ibrahim Raisi’s squad had to land in bad weather. According to Iranian reports, the team had three helicopters. Two of them carried ministers and other officials, and all three got to their target safely. However, one of the helicopters crashed and disappeared. The President of the Republic of Armenia, Hussain Amir Abdullahian, and other government leaders were also in the same helicopter.
The Iranian government says it is hard to find the helicopter at the accident spot because of the bad weather and thick fog. Because of the flaw, you can only see five meters in hills and forest areas. He said for sure that President Ibrahim Raisi was also in the plane that crashed. The Minister of the Interior said that relief workers are having a hard time getting to the scene because of the bad weather. This place is about north of Tabriz, which is an Iranian city. There are 50 km between them.
Ahmed Ali Rezabegi, an Iranian MP for Tabriz, told reporters in Tehran that rescue workers still don’t know where the plane carrying the President is.
He said about the Iran President helicopter crash, that the other two planes in the President’s group had safely landed. State TV in Iran said the event happened near the city of Julfa, which is on the border with Azerbaijan and about 600 kilometres northwest of Tehran, the capital of Iran.
