Doctor Doom will be played by Robert Downey Jr. again in the MCU

It looks like Robert Downey Jr. (Doctor Doom) will be back in Marvel movies. The actor is best known for his role as Iron Man. He will fully return to comic book movies as the bad guy Doctor Doom in two movies called Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.

The news was shared by Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios, at Marvel’s talk at San Diego Comic-Con on July 27, 2024. He also revealed that Anthony and Joseph Russo, who are known as the Russo Brothers, will direct Avengers: Doomsday, which is set to come out in May 2026.

Doctor Doom will be played by Robert Downey Jr.

Downey told the crowd from the stage, “Same mask, new task.” The actor is going to play the bad guy Victor von Doom, who has been an enemy in the Fantastic Four movies for a long time. He will also be in Avengers: Secret Wars in May 2027.

The exciting news was quickly shared on social media by the official Marvel Studios X account. “The Russo Brothers are back to direct Avengers: Doomsday for Marvel Studios. Robert Downey Jr. plays Doctor Doom in the movie.” It will only be in theatres in May 2026. #SDCC, the description said.
