Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif, who is Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s Information Adviser, said that Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur is missing and hasn’t been seen or heard from in several hours.

In a statement released Monday night, Barrister Saif said that everybody who tried to get in touch with Chief Minister Gandapur couldn’t because his phone lines were disconnected.

“Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur is in Islamabad, not Peshawar, but we don’t know where he is,” Saif said, adding that they were still trying to get in touch with him because they were afraid the police were trying to arrest him.

This happened after police arrested Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Sher Afzal Marwat, two leaders of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

Sources say that the leaders were arrested because they broke the law at last night’s rally in Islamabad by going off the agreed-upon route, beating police officers, and staying at the rally longer than was allowed.

Insiders in the PTI also said that Shoaib Shaheen had been taken in his office. Other leaders, like Aamir Dogar and Ali Muhammad Khan, were able to leave Parliament House without any problems.

Zartaj Gul and Omar Ayub are two PTI leaders who have been told by police that they are likely to be arrested soon. A PTI spokesperson said that Gul got away from cops in a car and avoided being arrested.

The arrests happened after Islamabad police filed several cases against PTI leaders under the Public Order and Peace Act for breaking the law at rallies, such as throwing stones and getting into fights with police.

Seventeen people have been arrested because cops say PTI workers attacked them with rocks and sticks.
